Why I’m Siding with Matt Bacak

Posted by Lisa Hoffmann in Marketing, Online networking, Personal branding, Social media on 12 4th, 2008 | 439Commentshttp://newmedialisa.com/index.php/why-im-siding-with-matt-bacak/Why+I%27m+Siding+with+Matt+Bacak2008-12-04+16%3A27%3A44Lisa+Hoffmann

Disclaimer: I started writing this post before my good friend Scott Hepburn wrote this post. They’re great complements to one another, though, dontcha think?

Matt Bacak is “The Powerful Promoter” an old-school (as old school as you can get online) email and direct response marketing coach who writes Dan Kennedy style books like Secrets of the Internet Millionaire Mind. I don’t care for his style. I wouldn’t use it myself. I suspect he’s a dying breed. But I have a question for everyone out there who is calling him an idiot (and worse):

Who made you the boss of the Internet?

Sure, his now-famous press release was self-promotional, but it’s completely consistent with his brand and style. And here’s another thing: it’s all working for him. A prominent note on his home page is turning new clients away. He has more than 300,000 newsletter subscribers. He’s making a living as an entrepreneur.

His way is not wrong. It’s just different. And I suspect that if and when the fan base for this type of marketing dries up he will shift gears.

If you believe in social media the way I do then join me in proving it’s a better way to connect with people than blatant promotion and broadcasting.

Make social media work for you the way Matt Bacak has made his way work for him.
