I discovered how much I love to write when I felt tears forming as my high school English teacher, the beloved Mr. Posner, marked up my creative writing project. When he realized how upset I was, he smiled and said, “I already knew you had the talent. Now I know you have the passion.”
I don’t know about the talent part (that’s for my readers to decide), but I can’t deny my drive to communicate. A born conversationalist, I’m a prime candidate for a social media 12-step program. That’s why working for Duke Energy is a dream job. Wait…what?! Yes, I work for Duke Energy, a power company headquartered in Charlotte, NC. I wasn’t sure I’d fit into the corporate scene either, but it curls my toes every day. Because smart corporations understand that it’s time to get social. Duke Energy is stuffed to the gills with smart people. And we’re getting social in lots of exciting ways.
If you’re going to read this blog, there are a few other things you ought to know. That way when I go off topic you’ll know where I’m coming from. Maybe.
Before twitter, Facebook and _insert latest social platform here_ were born, my fabulous three kids were. Two rough-housing, fun-loving, clever boys and a sassy, silly, smart girl make me feel like the luckiest mom on earth – at the best of times. Even when things get a little tattered at the edges though, I’m grateful for the perspective they bring into my life. Motherhood is a rich and raucous ride.
And I love food. Oh, how I love food. Finding a fragrantly ripe canteloupe can make my day. Slicing and sauteeing onions, peppers and garlic soothe away stress. Shaving parmesan over steaming pasta makes me want to sing! And chocolate…don’t get me started about dessert. I’ll just say this: a warm fudgy brownie studded with crunchy nuts topped with melty vanilla bean ice cream is a work. of. art. Is your mouth watering, or is it just me?
I’ll get back on topic to close this out. I love working in, learning about and finding ways to use new media. I also love discussing all these wonderful (and challenging!) developments. They’re prompting amazing changes in the way people network and connect, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
